Chilled water optimization project leads to big energy savings
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A chilled water system at The Saint Luke’s Hospital Energy Center went into operation in 2007 but was not meeting performance standards.
Last year, Saint Luke’s and P1 Service did an extensive review of the system’s design, then completed an energy audit and worked together on an engineered solution. As a team, P1 Service’s Performance Solutions staff and Saint Luke’s building operators have reduced the Energy Center’s utility spend by more than 29 percent.
The chilled water optimization project has also netted Saint Luke’s more than $300,000 in KCP&L rebate dollars.
Key to the success has been measurement and verification software, which the team uses to continuously monitor the Energy Center.
“The improved chilled water optimization system has not only significantly decreased our energy usage,” said David Jones, System Director of Facilities/Operations, Saint Luke’s Healthcare System, “the re-designed platform is also much simpler to monitor and control.”
